Poet and novelist Daphne Marlatt was born in Melbourne, Australia and spent her early years in Malaysia. She has published over 14 collections of poetry, including This Tremor Love Is, Touch to my Tongue, How Hug a Stone and Steveston. Her two novels, Ana Historic and Taken, received critical acclaim. In spring 2006, Pangaea Arts presented a full production of The Gull, Marlatt's contemporary Noh play about Steveston's Japanese-Canadian fishing community. She is currently working on an intergenre text she calls a "fictomem", as well as a series of short stories. Daphne Marlatt is a Member of the Order of Canada.
