 Jaspreet Singh 's novel Chef, written during his 2006 - 2007 residency, has made the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award longlist.

Marcello Di Cintio has won the 2009 Dave Greber Freelance Writers Magazine Award. Geist Magazine will publish the winning article, "Wall of Shame", which is an adaptation of a chapter from Marcello's book about the communities that live in the shadow of walls, fences and other "hard" barriers.

Sina Queyras , the 2007 - 2008 Canadian Writer-in-Residence, has been shortlisted for a Governor General's Literary Award (in the poetry category) for Expressway, a collection of poetry completed during her Markin-Flanagan residency. Winners will be announced November 17. more

 

Calgary Writer named 2009 - 2010 Markin-Flanagan Canadian Writer-in-Residence

Calgary writer and U of C alumnus Marcello Di Cintio has been named the 2009 - 2010 Markin-Flanagan Canadian Writer-in-Residence. He will be in residence at the U of C from August 15, 2009 to June 15, 2010. >> more

Sina Queyras wins National Magazine Award!


Sina Queyras
has won a Gold National Magazine Award for "Her Dreams of the Expressway", a poem completed during her 2007- 2008 Markin-Flanagan residency. The poem was published in the Malahat Review before appearing in her new poetry collection, Expressway. Congratulations, Sina!

Every year the University of Calgary hires a new Markin-Flanagan Canadian Writer-in-Residence to add fresh blood to the English program. This years' writer is ready for her adventure. Gill starts mid-August, but is already making herself comfortable in her new home.  more
