Linguistics and literature: A path to critical discourse analysis

The objective of my paper is to review the evolution of modern linguistics from the separation of ‘langue’ and ‘parole’ to understanding the process of communication as based on the social and economic organization of a community in which ‘text’ is a medium of ‘discourse’. I will draw an itinerary that will connect linguistics with literature and explain the value of incorporating linguistic analysis within critical discourse analysis. The paper concludes with examples demonstrating the complex interactions of language and ideology in various contexts.
