April Viczko’s research focuses on Scenography and the interconnectedness of the various disciplines under that umbrella. April is a set, costume, lighting and projection designer for live performance. Her work has been seen on stages across Canada. She recently had a production selected for performance at the New York Fringe Festival and has worked on several world premiere productions.
She is currently working on a URGC-sponsored project entitled Costume Design: Designers Speak Through Sketch. She is investigating the language of costume designers in their specific medium of drawing. The project aims to create a methodology to analyze costume sketches as documents of communication and create a searchable open access database of Canadian costume design sketches.
April’s current research comprises creative and scholarly activity. She will be working on a new play at Alberta Theatre Projects in the fall of 2014. She is also the President of the Board of Directors for the Associated Designers of Canada, a national arts service organization that seeks to promote the interests of designers for live performance.
