"At a formal ceremony, during which keys were presented to University President, Dr. H.S. Armstrong, and a barricade of scarlet ribbon was cut by by Alberta's Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable J.W. Grant MacEwan, the new University Theatre and Music Wing of Calgary Hall, were officially opened the evening of February 26th 1966. More than 400 people attended the openning ceremony which launched a week long Fine Arts Festival sponsored by the Department of Fine Arts and Fine Arts Education."
"During the opening ceremonies, Dr. A.M. Brown, at that time the Head of the Department of Fine Arts and Fine Arts Education, thanked the people of Alberta for providing such excellent facilities in which to work and explained that the campus playhouse would serve every area of the University. He also expressed the hope that through it's role in training young people in the performing arts, and also as a centre for cultural presentations, it would enrich the lives of people in the community."

University Theatre Services is not only a proud supporter of the Arts here on campus but also plays an integral role in Calgary's Arts community and has provided a wide variety of performance organizations throughout the city with a beautifully designed, well maintained venue in which to showcase their talents. The University Theatre also boasts a strong and well established relationship with the various departments in the Faculty of Arts, which include departments of Music, Drama and Dance.
