Dr. Alexander A. Hill

Dr. Hill's research focuses on Soviet contributions to the national liberation struggles of the peoples of southern Africa, and in particular support for both the Namibian SWAPO and the MPLA government in Angola from 1975. In his research, he looks at both theoretical justifications and policy as drivers for Soviet involvement in the region, compared to what the Soviet Union was actually doing on the ground, to assess the extent to which a Soviet conception of human rights - and in particular opposition to Apartheid - was a significant factor in guiding Soviet activity.
