Emergency message testing in Science Theatres Aug. 21 >>

Emergency Management and Campus Security will be conducting tests on the mass notification system in the Science Theatres building on Monday night, August 21, 2017 from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Before the new system goes “live,” the standard messages need to be tested to ensure they can be triggered for quick use, and heard by everyone in the building. This system allows Campus Security to communicate with students, faculty and staff in specific buildings from the Security Operations Centre. Notification of testing dates and times will be posted on each building approximately one week prior to testing.

Evacuation drills scheduled for campus >>

As part of our efforts to support a safe campus environment, the university will be carrying out evacuation drills from Sept. 19–29 in campus buildings as part of our annual emergency preparedness training.

Please download the UC Emergency app for a complete schedule of building evacuation dates and times or visit the Emergency Management website.

If you are in a building scheduled to be evacuated, please plan for a 30-minute disruption and know:

  1. Your primary and secondary exits
  2. Your evacuation procedure
  3. The assembly point for your building (designated to provide a safe area with shelter, appropriate facilities for large numbers of people and communication on the status of the event)

If you are teaching, please assist your students in routing to the appropriate exit and assembly point.

Building evacuation exercises will be conducted twice per day, at 9:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and at 9:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.

The UC Emergency app delivers alerts and updates that can save lives and prevent injury. The app is one part of the university's emergency management plan and a big part of creating a safe and healthy living and learning environment for everyone on campus. »Download the app now.
