Faculty of Arts initiative promoting wellness launches on October 27

On Tuesday, October 27 the Faculty of Arts launches Arts in Motion, a new initiative promoting and supporting staff and faculty interests in creating work life balance, managing stress, and improving quality of life.

 The launch event will be held at noon in Gallery Hall at the Taylor Family Digital Library. Learn more about Arts in Motion from committee chair Brenda O’Neill. Dr. O’Neill is the Department Head of Political Science. At the event you will learn about the university’s approach to wellness and mental health strategies with professor Keith Dobson from the Department of Psychology. Dobson is a principal investigator for the Mental Health Commission of Canada. After the talk, you can enjoy a 10-minute professionally led stretch break with Gretchen Castronuovo (no exercise gear required), and wrap up the AIM wellness launch with a snack size Jugo Juice smoothie.

 Arts in Motion is dedicated to developing programs and activities that fit into busy university life schedules and address a range of wellness interests and abilities. The committee is planning a variety of on-going and one-time activities such as yoga, walking meetings, and learning sessions. The committee promotes existing resources and health programs on campus and in the community. The overall aim of the committee is to foster a healthy work environment that supports employees’ in making healthy choices and creating healthy habits for work-life balance. 

 The Arts in Motion committee consists of volunteer representatives from across the faculty who are collaborating to enhance workplace health and wellness. The committee adopts an inclusive and multi-dimensional approach to well-being that considers the social, mental, and physical dimensions of employee wellness.
