CIH Graduate Student Fellow recognized at Faculty of Arts Awards

English PhD candidate Jamie Michaels received Justice, Equity & Transformation Creativity Award

CIH Graduate Student Fellow Jamie Michaels (English) received the Justice, Equity & Transformation Creativity Award at the Faculty of Arts Awards ceremony on April 30, 2025. The award celebrates UCalgary scholars whose innovations help create a fairer world. 

Jamie is a writer, filmmaker, and educator who joined the Calgary Institute for the Humanities as a Graduate Student Fellow in 2024. During his Fellowship, Jamie will be working on his research-creation dissertation. This graphic novel traces the emergence of Jewish and Arab nationalisms during the First World War. By representing both Jewish and Arab perspectives, Jamie’s goal is to foster greater understanding between Israelis and Palestinians.
