Dorothy Smith: Discovering a Sociology for People

A documentary about the life and work of an important Canadian sociologist.
Dorothy Smith

Elizabeth Cameron, undergraduate Sociology major, and Liza McCoy, associate professor in Sociology, have made a 22-minute documentary about Dorothy E. Smith, the well-known Canadian sociologist who at 95 has just published her latest book. In the film, Smith talks about her life, her encounter with feminism in the 1960s, and her discovery of a way of doing sociology in which people are the subjects rather than the objects of inquiry.

Dorothy Smith: Discovering a Sociology for People is freely available for viewing and educational uses.
