Dr. McBride has expertise in the clinical care of individuals with rare diseases and a mission to lead in translational genetics, applying skills at bridging basic and clinical science to affect change in understanding, diagnosing and treating rare and devastating disorders in children.

Dr. McBride has a history of success in collaborative basic science and translational research of rare genetic diseases. He has clinical trial expertise through all trial phases with specific interest in lysosomal storage disorders and gene therapy. His National Institutes of Health-funded basic science lab has focused on the causes of congenital heart disease (CHD) and their outcomes. Using genome sequencing, induced pluripotent stem cells and gene editing technology, his lab has discovered several genes responsible for CHD.

Dr. McBride was named a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (Pediatrics) in 2001 and holds board certification in Clinical Genetics and Clinical Biochemical Genetics with the American Board of Medical Genetics.
