Congratulations to Chene Redwood for winning the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship, which is considered the University of Calgary’s pinnacle award.

This award was established to help in the building of Canada’s future by encouraging advanced studies and to develop and expand the work of Canadian universities, and to promote sympathetic understanding between Canadians and the peoples of other countries

Chene  has proposed an innovative, mixed-method study that examines the role of hiring managers in the labour market outcomes of skilled immigrants in Calgary and Toronto. Immigrants in Canada face significant economic disadvantages in terms of both income and employment. Chene’s work will help to improve labour market integration by examining the professional practices that organizations employ in their hiring decisions. This organizational-level focus will address limitations in existing research which has tended to focus on the characteristics of individual immigrants themselves, or societal-level factors. Chene is working under the supervision of Dr. Matt Patterson.
