UCalgary History Grads win at the annual FGS Images of Research Competition

Marice McIntyre and Hannah Wygeria received top awards for capturing images showcasing their research

Two UCalgary History Graduate students were award winners at the 2024-25 FGS Images of Research Competition (IoR). Marice McIntyre (MA) was the Overall Winner and Digitally Generated Category winner for Reimagining the Prairie Frontier: Power, Conflict, and Environment in the Post-Confederation Canadian West and Hannah Wygeria (PhD) earned the People’s Choice Award and Honourable Mention for Church and State: Positions of Authority.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies at UCalgary invites graduate students to participate in the IoR annually. They are encouraged to explore new ways of thinking about research, its value, and how it can be communicated to a broad, non-specialist audience.

To participate, students are challenged to capture an image that showcases their research and write a general abstract to complement the image as well as describe their research and its impact. Entries are judged on composition, quality, how effectively the images connect with research, and on the quality of the written abstracts.

Participants can win awards, receive feedback and access workshops and resources through a dedicated D2L course. Awards include $750 for top entries, $300 for honorable mentions, and $100 for the People’s Choice award.
