Faculty update: Oct. 2017

Wondering what our faculty members are up to? Here's a brief snapshot of some of the activities.


Melanie Kloetzel's 'Room' is touring to Edmonton's Mile Zero Dance to be part of the CanDance Network's ReMix series in October 2017. As part of the series, 'Room' will be presented both in it original form and as a remixed version, created by Kloetzel in partnership with the well-known St. John's artist, Sarah Joy Stoker.
On October 27-28, 2017, kloetzel&co. takes to the stage to perform the dance theatre work 'It began with watching' for Calgary's premier dance festival, the Fluid Movement Arts Festival.

Christine Brubaker performed 7th Cousins: An Automythography on September 23 and 24 at St. Matthew's Church in Toronto. It's part of a series of pop-up performances with Nightwood Theatre in Toronto this season. An article on her show 

Laura Hynes' upcoming vocal performances include two Building Bridges Benefit concerts (Calgary's Bella Auditorium on Oct. 12, Edmonton venue Oct. 14), and the concert premiere of faculty composer William Jordan's new opera The Double Hook on Oct. 28.

Pil Hansen's book on memory in the performing arts is now available for presale. Hansen, Pil and Bettina Blaesing, eds. Performing the Remembered Present: The Cognition of Memory in Dance, Theatre and MusicBloomsbury Methuen, 2017. 

Sarah Kenny is the recipient of an International Association for Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) Student Travel Grant Award and will be presenting two papers from her PhD at the annual IADMS conference in Houston, TX, Oct 12-15 2017. In addition to oral presentations, Sarah has also been invited to participate in an open debate titled 'To screen or not to Screen – that is the question'.
