Committed to a goal of research excellence with its refreshed Eyes High strategy, undergraduate and graduate students from the Faculty of Arts are major contributors to the strength of the university's research and learning landscape. Faculty of Arts students are regularly recognized for the following awards:

  • Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships
The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program attracts and retains world-class doctoral students and helps establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning.

  • Killam Awards
The Killam Pre-Doctoral Scholarship and Prize Programs were established in memory of Izaak Walton Killam through the Will of his wife, Dorothy Johnston Killam, and through gifts made during her lifetime. The primary purpose is to support advanced education and research at five selected Canadian universities and the Canada Council for the Arts.

  • Dean's List
The Dean's List recognizes students who achieve regular outstanding academic success

  • Students' Union Undergraduate Research Symposium
This annual research symposium hosted by the University of Calgary Students' Union gives undergraduate students an opportunity to showcase their research alongside other undergraduate researchers from across campus.

PURE Awards

With a commitment to become one of Canada's top five research universities, one of the most important initiatives at the University of Calgary is the Program for Undergraduate Research Experience, better known as PURE. Each year undergraduates can apply for the prestigious PURE Awards, which provide financial research support to some of the university’s most promising students over the Spring and Summer months.

The program is designed to give undergraduate students the opportunity to learn how to develop research projects, undertake independent research and contribute to knowledge in their respective fields.
