Arts professor emeritus receives Jubilee honours
A professor emeritus of French in the Faculty of Arts was among a group of distinguished Albertans recently honoured with a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.
Dr. Anthony J. Wall, PhD, received the honour from Lt.-Gov. Salma Lakhani in recognition for his accomplishments as a French-language instructor, as well as for his work as a Research Chair at UCalgary between 2004 and 2009.
The Platinum Jubilee Medal honours program was established in 2022 to mark the Queen’s 70th anniversary as monarch. It is awarded for outstanding service related to family, community and country. Wall’s nomination papers cite his Chair position, several guest professorships awarded in Germany and Brazil, as well as numerous research grants and awards received during his career.
His work as a French teacher at UCalgary — where he began teaching in 1985 — and as a promotor of French-language education in Alberta also played a significant part of this recognition.
