Holocaust Remembrance Concert - April 11

SCPA Music faculty, students and alumni present a concert of music by Jewish composers

In commemoration of the annual International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27), School of Creative and Performing Arts Music faculty, students and alumni present a concert of music by Jewish composers, including a string trio by Gideon Klein. This was Klein’s very last composition, written in the Terezin concentration camp in 1944. Soon after completing the work, he was sent to Auschwitz and from there to Fürstengrube, where he perished in January 1945.

The programme also includes Klezmer music, which essentially disappeared from Europe after the Holocaust, and the music of Felix Mendelssohn, Ernest Bloch and Darius Milhaud.

The concert will take place at 8 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022 at the Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall of the Rozsa Centre, University of Calgary (206 University Court NW, Calgary).

The concert is free and open to the public.

Opening address: Dr. Deborah Yedlin, Chancellor, University of Calgary
