Welcome, Leticia Moraes

Mitacs Globalink Intern from Brazil
Leticia Moraes

The Department of History welcomes Leticia Moraes Fernandes Godoy, an undergraduate history major from the Universidade Federal da Integração Latino-Americana in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, Brasil. As a Globalink research intern, she joins the Department of History for the summer to work with Dr. Hendrik Kraay on his project on pre-Lenten celebrations in the nineteenth-century Portuguese world. She will collect and analyze newspaper articles from Rio de Janeiro on entrudo and carnival to trace the social meanings of these festive practices.

Since arriving in Calgary, Letícia has been impressed with Calgary’s “natural beauties and natural places to see.” For her, the University of Calgary is “a great place to research, with a huge infrastructure” and she is looking forward to making the most of her internship.

Her Globalink internship is funded through a partnership between Mitacs and the Fundação Araucária, Paraná state’s research funding agency.
