UCalgary History Graduate will research John Ware and Black history in Southern Alberta
Congratulations to UCalgary History's Peyton Neustaedter on the successful defense of her MA thesis.
"Preaching Pan-Africanism in Alberta: Reverend George Washington Slater, Jr. and 'Our Negro Citizens'" examines Reverend Slater's political and mission work at the Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Edmonton. Using a column he wrote, the thesis examines the political and community-building work of the Black community in Edmonton.
Peyton will continue to work with Cheryl Foggo and Dr. Lindsay Amundsen-Meyer on their research on John Ware and Black history in Southern Alberta.
