  • Cost: $135 million.

  • Part of $270.6 million investment from the Government of Alberta over the past five years for the MacKimmie Tower redevelopment, Professional Faculties Building renovation and construction of Hunter Student Commons.

  • It’s a smart building, providing real-time analytics on Hunter Student Commons’ energy performance.

  • Features solar panels on the walls, building materials that take advantage of the elements as natural heating and cooling systems.

  • Hunter Student Commons is named in honour of the ongoing support from the Hunter family for developing entrepreneurial thinking at the University of Calgary.

  • Replaces the former MacKimmie Block which opened in 1963.

  • Second floor is dedicated to student supports with the Registrar’s Office, which includes Enrolment Services, and the new Prospective Student Hub creating a welcoming front door for current and future UCalgary students to get the answers they need most.

  • Permanent home for the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking, including event and collision spaces for the campus community to engage with Calgary entrepreneurs.

  • Features innovative classrooms to enable social work students to participate in, and observe, mock therapy sessions as part of hands-on learning.

  • Dramatically increases available student study spaces on campus so that all students have a place to gather, work and collaborate.

  • Located in the heart of campus and open to all UCalgary students.
