Director's Message
Welcome to the Language Research Centre.
The Language Research Centre (LRC) is a research centre of the School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures (SLLLC) at the University of Calgary. The LRC’s work is devoted to language pedagogy, theoretical and applied linguistics, literary and cultural studies, and related topics and fields.
On this site, you can find information about LRC events and facilities, about its members and working groups, and about current funding opportunities. We very much welcome feedback to our programming, and we are always looking for new ways to connect with scholars, educators, and other community members interested in language in its various instantiations.
Please direct any questions about the content of this site to LRC@ucalgary.ca. You can also contact the LRC Director, Dr. Mushegh Asatryan, directly at mushegh.asatryan@ucalgary.ca
Vision
The Language Research Centre is Alberta’s main hub for research and for knowledge dissemination in the fields of language pedagogy, theoretical and applied linguistics, literary and cultural studies, and related topics and fields.
Mission
The LRC fosters and supports research in the fields of language pedagogy, theoretical and applied linguistics, literary and cultural studies, and related topics and fields. As such, the LRC supports talks, workshops, conferences, working groups, and publications that engage academic and non-academic community members; forges international and local partnerships; and provides practical support for grant applications as well as for lab-based research and for language examinations and certificates. The LRC advocates for linguistic diversity by supporting the learning, documentation, and revitalization of languages and their literatures and cultures, with a special attention to Canada’s official languages and Indigenous languages, as well as the international languages taught in SLLLC.
