CMSS Research Fellowships - Applications Open

The Centre for Military, Security and Strategic Studies invites applications for this year’s CMSS Research Fellowship competition. 

The competition will award the recipient faculty member of the University of Calgary (tenured, associate, adjunct, etc.) a six-month fellowship with the Centre during the academic year of 2024-2025, providing up to 5,000 CAD in research funding during either the Fall or Winter semester. These funds are meant to help supplement work on a research project that relates to one or more of CMSS’s research themes or areas: 

21st Century Security:  Shifting global contexts and emerging security challenges and opportunities, such as Arctic energy and environments, climate change, cybersecurity, autonomous weapons and enhanced soldiers, health, migration, and citizenship. 

National Security and Defence: National security, security institutions, and defence policies and processes.

Conventional and Unconventional Warfare and Conflict: Military theory, practice, and strategy, as well as asymmetrical non-state violence, laws of armed conflict, and atrocity crimes.

Human Rights, Peace and Development: Policies, institutions, and processes to build and sustain peaceful and inclusive societies.

Inter-disciplinary and transdisciplinary work is highly commended. See the attached document for further terms of reference. Please submit an updated CV, a 1-2 page project proposal, and a provisional budget to cmss@ucalgary.ca.
