UCalgary Sociology: A Strategic Focus on Systematic Injustice and Structural Harm

We embrace research and teaching that recognizes, explains, and resists systemic injustice and structural harm.

Our scholars examine inequity and injustice across diverse areas: health, education, culture, work, urban studies, migration, gender, intersectionality, racialization and racism, colonialism, indigeneity, families, religion, legal studies, climate justice, digital technology, criminology and political economy.

Aligned with Institutional Priorities

Our work supports the Faculty of Arts' strategic focus on Justice, Equity and Transformation, while also contributing to Digital Futures, Health and Wellness, and Climate, Energy and Sustainability.

Guided by UCalgary’s Ahead of Tomorrow plan, we harness the power of research and innovation to address society’s biggest challenges. Through our disciplines, Sociology and Law and Society, we create knowledge and understanding about the institutions, systems, social interactions and structures that are at the core of these challenges.
