Background

Biography

Razieh Alba is a PhD Candidate in the University of Calgary’s Educational Research in
Curriculum and Learning. As an Art Educator, her areas of research and interest lie in integrating
Indigenous knowledges in art curriculums to better serve her students and the communities that
she is a part of. Her current research project focuses on the use of Two-Eyed Seeing to combine
both Indigenous and Western ways of knowing in the classroom. She is also a practicing three-
dimensional, visual, and conceptual artist whose areas of focus lie in addressing deep-rooted
social issues through the use of narrative storytelling to create spaces where viewers can reflect
on their own personal biases and lived experiences. Through this process, Alba works to shift
perspectives related to social stigmas and provide spaces where social change takes place on a
deeply personal, individual level.
