Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Art History
Students develop critical writing and research skills for historical and contemporary approaches to art, architecture, design, and visual culture. Options encourage the integration of courses from other areas such as classical art, film, or religious art, and provide opportunities to consider issues of exhibition and display in museum contexts.
Visual Studies degree programs
Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)/Honours in Visual Studies
This program gives you a focused studio experience specializing in a specific medium. You will gain professional experience in proposing and preparing for group shows.
Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Visual Studies and Bachelor of Education (BEd)
This five-year double-major program prepares you to teach art in grades K to 12 from the Werklund School of Education and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Studies from the Faculty of Arts.
Minor programs
Minor in Visual Studies and Art History
This minor program introduces you to a broad history of art, and complements degrees in other areas such as Biological Sciences, English, Communications & Media Studies, Psychology or Computer Science if you want to add a historical, critical, or studio-based knowledge of the visual culture. A minor can be declared up to the time of your last registration at the University of Calgary.
Minor in Museum and Heritage Studies
The Museum and Heritage Studies minor program is for those who have an interest in collecting, preserving and exhibiting institutions, such as historic sites, parks and museums.
