Requirements

To earn the embedded certificate in Latin American Studies, you will successfully complete 18 units of coursework.

Core courses

  • 6 units (2 courses)

Elective courses

  • 3 units in the Field of Latin American Studies at the 400 level
  • 9 units chosen from the Field of Latin American Studies in a minimum of 2 subject areas

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, students will: 

  • Identify and explain the significance of the major social and economic trends in Latin America  
  • Explain the significance of major socio-economic indicators for Latin American countries and the differences among these countries. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of key developments in Latin American societies and cultures 
  • Analyze the role of political, social, economic, and cultural issues in Latin American societies and cultures 
  • Demonstrate understanding of and evaluate debates regarding ideas of cultural change 
  • Gain exposure to a variety of disciplinary approaches to the study of Latin America
