Artist statement

In 2018 I was diagnosed with Epilepsy. I suffered a series of Tonic-Clonic seizures which resulted in a complete rebuild of my life. As a photographer I felt that using visual expressions would be a powerful tool to share my experiences and raise awareness of this condition with the general public. As I've learned, up to a third of Canadians will suffer from some form of epilepsy or seizure in their lifetime. A surprising statistic. This is a sample set of images from a book that I am building to share my story. I hope to discover more ways to bring to light the fear and disorientation this condition brings with it. I hope that work of this nature will raise more empathy and awareness of the struggles of Epileptics and perhaps even contribute to further research into neurological conditions.
