Throughout life, the roles of individuals in a family shift and evolve. When we are young, our parents and grandparents care for us and raise us. As our parents age, we begin to gradually take on the role of caregiver in order to provide for them. The objects that belong to our grandparents become our parents’ and then eventually become ours. Each family has a unique dynamic of similarities and differences, things retained, and things changed over time.
I think the world of you, my girl is a collection of photographs that capture these shifting roles in the relationships between the women in my family. This series encapsulates the impact that age has on function, sense of purpose and need for others. In capturing moments and objects that signify three generations of women in my family, this series highlights the importance of family.
