A Comparative Analysis of Canadian Armoured Reconnaissance in the Second World War

During the Second World War, each of the five Canadian divisions had a divisional reconnaissance regiment. These regiments were a new development in warfare and operated as fully mechanized armoured car units. Each regiment had to learn "on the fly" as armoured reconnaissance had not been tested in previous wars. Further, regiments were deployed at various times and in various locations, including Italy, France, Belgium, and Holland. I am seeking to understand what impacted the development of these regiments, and how diverse experiences created a standard doctrine, elements of which are still used by the Canadian Armed Forces today.
