After four years of “absence” (Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the last HMDs conferences had to be organized as online Zoom® events to ensure social distancing) it is a great pleasure to announce that the 32nd annual and nation-wide History of Medicine Days student conference will be held in person this weekend (March 17-18, 2023).

Participants from Canada, the USA, and Nigeria will give 33 oral presentations, 12 posters, 1 keynote, and 2 featured lectures on a wide spectrum of topics related to the history of biomedicine and health care. The keynote speaker on Friday is Dr. Christopher Green from York University, Toronto, a renowned historian of psychiatry and psychology, who will talk about “Using Digital Networks to Explore 19th Century Psychiatry Journals”. He is also known to a wider audience through his blog “Advances in History of Psychology." A history of medicine book exhibit from the Health Sciences Library will complement the event. Conference participation and registration for everyone interested is free (apart from the award dinner on Saturday), but an RSVP to the conference coordinator Marcia Garcia (marcia.garcia@ucalgary.ca) is kindly requested. The conference is open to the UCalgary community and the wider interested public.
