Harvey Amani Whitfield's book honoured by the Canadian Historical Association

"Biographical Dictionary of Enslaved Black People in the Maritimes" wins CLIO Award for Atlantic History

Harvey Amani Whitfield’s Biographical Dictionary of Enslaved Black People in the Maritimes has won the Canadian Historical Association's 2023 CLIO Prize for Atlantic History. The CHA awards its Clio Awards to the best books in regional history, as well as to individuals or historical societies who have made significant contributions to local and regional history.

Published by University of Toronto Press, Biographical Dictionary of Enslaved Black People in the Maritimes "unearths the stories of men, women, and children who would not otherwise have found their way into written history. This important book sheds light on more than 1,400 brief life histories of mostly enslaved Black people, with the goal of recovering their individual lives."

Congratulations, Amani!
