Welcome to the Arts and Science Honours Academy (ASHA), an unique undergraduate experience for students with high academic standing, and a record of leadership or involvement in their school or community.

The Arts and Science Honours Academy (ASHA) enriches your undergraduate experience as a student in either the Faculty of Arts or the Faculty of Science.  It is not a degree plan, but rather a supplement to your studies in your major field.

As an ASHA student, you will be one of a class of the best and brightest at the University of Calgary. Your cohort of 25 like-minded, high achieving students will learn and study together throughout the program. Small classes allow close mentoring, with an emphasis on strong critical writing and debating skills.

ASHA combines 5 multidisciplinary courses (which fulfill your electives outside of your major), language study, experiential learning, and an international experience into a unique undergraduate experience. Every student’s ASHA journey is unique in its own way. The below course plan is designed to be finished in four years:

Year 1

  • Complete ASHA 220
  • Think about going on exchange
  • Take 6 units of second language courses

Year 2

  • Complete ASHA 321 and ASHA 421
  • Apply for and plan a study abroad experience
  • Apply for Honours
  • Complete 6 units of second language courses if not already done

Year 3

  • Travel abroad (Find out more at: ASHA Study Abroad)
  • 6 units of second language can be taken while abroad
  • Apply for Honours if you have not already

Year 4
