Congratulations to the 2021-22 Calgary Institute for the Humanities Fellowship Recipients

Since 1977, the CIH has offered Annual Resident Fellowships to faculty members at the University of Calgary. The CIH also awards a graduate student fellowship and a Fellowship in Applied Ethics, and hosts a Scholar-in-Residence.

Each year the CIH hosts a variety of research fellowships, including resident fellows, doctoral and postdoctoral fellows, and visiting fellows. Fellows at the institute are given the time and space to pursue high-calibre research projects, and to share their insights with scholars from different disciplines. A number of the Fellowships at the CIH are made possible by generous community donors who have endowed these fellowships in perpetuity. We are grateful to them for their commitment to the humanities and to the valuable research produced by scholars at the University of Calgary.

Established in 1976, the Calgary Institute for the Humanities fosters advanced study and research in a broad range of subject areas. We are multi-disciplinary and multi-faculty orientated. We support research in traditional Humanities disciplines such as languages and literature, history, religious studies, philosophy, as well as in philosophical and historical aspects of the social sciences, arts, sciences, and professional studies. The humanities are not conceived as a specific group of academic disciplines, but as forms of study that examine what is human – typically guided by literature, history, social and physical settings, artifacts, visual and performing arts.
