Donated by faculty members of the Department of Philosophy. One award is offered annually to an undergraduate student, registered full-time in an Honours, major, or minor program in the Department of Philosophy, and based on academic merit in Philosophy courses. Nominated by the Department.
Made possible by donations from the former Faculty of Humanities, the Department of Philosophy, the former Department of Religious Studies, and colleagues and former students of Dr. Terence Penelhum. Two awards of $450 are offered annually to undergraduate students entering their third or fourth year in the Faculty of Arts, majoring in Philosophy or Religious Studies, and based on academic merit. One award is allocated to a student majoring in Religious Studies and one award is allocated to a student majoring in Philosophy. Nominated by the Department.
Endowed by faculty members and friends of the Department of Philosophy. One award of $1900 is offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student in the Faculty of Arts, majoring in Philosophy, with primary consideration being given to noteworthy philosophical aptitude and secondary consideration being given to academic achievement. Nominated by the Department.
Established in memory of Associate Professor Brian Grant (1940-2007), this annual essay contest is open to undergraduate students registered at the University of Calgary in any faculty. The winner of the essay contest will be nominated for the Brian Grant Philosophy Undergraduate Award (currently valued at approximately $1000).
The bursary will be awarded on academic merit and financial need, and is made possible by a University of Calgary Philosophy alum, Greg Guichon (BA 1976). The award will go to a student enrolled in the BA or BA Honours in Philosophy Cooperative Education degree; if there is no eligible student in these programs, the bursary will go to someone in the the BA or BA Honours in Philosophy. The student must apply for this bursary.
For students completing their undergraduate degree program requirements with academic excellence at the University of Calgary. Each faculty and department determines its own definition of academic excellence and establishes guidelines for the selection of medallion recipients, with consideration to the following criteria: Grade point average, course load, minimum number of University of Calgary courses taken.
Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student entering third or fourth year in the Faculty of Arts, majoring in Philosophy. Nominated by the Department.
Established in memory of Dr. Judith Sloman, who taught at the University of Calgary from 1968 until her death in 1980, to encourage students in her two main areas of academic interest - Women's Studies and Eighteenth Century English Literature. Nominated by the Department.
Offered annually to an undergraduate student in any faculty. Preference is given to a student with a major in Women's Studies. Registered full-time but need not be carrying a full course load. Nominated by the Department.
