Biography

A nationally and internationally recognized specialist of 19th-century French novelist Honoré de Balzac, Jean-François Richer published two single-author books, twenty articles, and presented over fifty academic papers in Canada, the United-States, France, England, and Germany. He regularly reviews research papers for national and international journals and in 2014, he won the ACEF-XIX award for “Best Article in 19th Century French studies”. Jean-François Richer taught junior, senior, and graduate courses in Montreal, Baltimore, and Calgary; he won a “Student Union Teaching Excellence Award” in 2019, and the prestigious “University of Calgary Teaching Award for Full-Time Faculty” in 2020. Jean-François Richer served has the Department Head of French, Italian and Spanish, as the Director of the French Centre, as the Chair of the Division of French, and, from 2021 to 2024, as the President of his national association, the ACEF-XIX.
