Biography

The central theme of Dr. Guadagni’s research focuses on investigating the effects of sleep, sleep-deprivation, and sleep disturbances on cognitive functioning and brain structure and function. 

She completed a Bachelor in Psychobiology and a Master in Neuroscience at the University of L’Aquila, Italy. She then moved to Canada where she completed a Ph.D. in Cognitive Neurosciences at the University of Calgary, Alberta. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Cumming School of Medicine and Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary from 2017 to 2021. She is now an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and the Director of Sleep Science at Cerebra Medical LTD.

During her Ph.D., Dr. Guadagni investigated how sleep (and the lack thereof) affects the human ability to empathize with others and the way individuals process emotional stimuli. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr. Guadagni investigated how a six-month aerobic exercise intervention can improve older adults cognitive ability and brain health, and the role of sleep quality as a mediator in this relationship. 

Dr. Guadagni’s clinical research interest includes Neurodegenerative Diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias, Sleep disorders and more recently evaluation of sleep in the ICU. 

As Director of Sleep Science at Cerebra Medical LTD she leads the science team in the discovery of new neuro-technologies and metrics to better characterize and treat sleep disorders.
