Courses and registration FAQ
Unfortunately no. We don't overload courses. If a course you want is full, you'll need to keep checking the enrollment system to see if a spot opens up.
Many courses are reserved for students who've been admitted to a specific degree program or major. Restrictions indicate who can register for a course, and when. During certain times you may need to wait for a restriction to expire before you can register.

How do I view a specific course’s restrictions?
- Log in to your Student Centre (my.ucalgary.ca)
- Go to your Schedule Builder and find the course
- View the “Results” panel to see the course’s details

But I'm in second/third/fourth year?
- Your academic year is counted according to how many units you've completed to date, not how long you've attended UCalgary.
- Courses in progress don't count towards this total.
- Each academic year is 30 units.

Fall/Winter terms
- 400/500-level courses restricted to PSYC major/honours degree students only.
- 300-level courses may open for registration if seats are available.

Spring/Summer terms
There are no PSYC enrollment restrictions during the Spring or Summer terms, so this is a good time for non-majors to enroll into senior courses assuming you have taken course prerequisites.

- Navigate to your ‘Student Center’ and look at your Account Summary.
- Have an outstanding fee? Pay it off as soon as possible.

Missing prerequisite(s) needed for the course
You need to complete the prerequisite course(s) before enrolling.
Look up your course description in the calendar to see the list of prerequisite course(s).

Transfer courses
- Having trouble with a transferred course that was granted credit? Contact us.
- Note: An external course which transferred to UCalgary as Psyc 2XX is not equivalent to UCalgary PSYC 200 or 201 for prerequisite purposes.
400 and 500-level PSYC courses are restricted to third and fourth academic year students in the Fall and Winter terms. These restrictions are usually in place for the first four weeks of the enrollment period so senior students can access the courses they'll need to graduate.
Note: These restrictions are not in place over the Spring and Summer terms.

But I'm in my third or fourth year?

No. PSYC 203 cannot be substituted for PSYC 200 and 201. If you have taken PSYC 203 and wish to take additional course work in Psychology, you will need to complete PSYC 200 and 201 prior to enrollment in other PSYC courses.

How can I find my remaining requirements or how my transfer courses will count towards my degree?
You should make an in-person appointment with an advisor in the Student Sucess Centre.
You'll need to take PSYC 300 and 301 in your second year to finish in four years. All 400-level courses (except PSYC 405) require PSYC 300 and 301 as prerequisites.
Take other 300-level PSYC courses required by your major, as well as electives of your choosing.
You'll finish your required 400-level PSYC courses and other senior electives in your final two years of the program.

No, the Department of Psychology does not allow credit in any of its courses to be earned by special assessment.
