Biography

Elaine is a heterosexual, cis-gender woman of Filipina and Turkish descent. Born and raised on Treaty 7 territory in the area the Blackfoot traditionally referred to as Moh'kinstsis (i.e., the city now known as Calgary), she enjoys hiking, catching up with friends/family, working out, playing board games, painting/drawing, and being dog-mom to her puppy, Luffy (pronounced: “Lu” + “FEE”).

She is supervised by Dr. Adam Murry in the Indigenous Organizations and Communities Research lab. Her research focuses on understanding mentorship from an Indigenous perspective and how these perspectives can be effectively applied to organizational practices. Other research interests include racial diversity in organizations, Indigenous/cross-cultural research, mentorship, organizational training, leadership, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).

Outside her research, she is a strong and active member of UCalgary’s Department of Psychology EDI Committee, including developing, promoting, and implementing the department's affinity and allyship groups.
