Congratulations to Andrew Ganske
The Barbara and Murray Smith Scholarship in Canadian Politics is offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student entering the final year in the Faculty of Arts, majoring in Political Science and focusing on Canadian politics. This scholarship is made possible by Nova Chemicals, Inc., the Varsity Conservative Party Riding Association, and a matching allocation from the Faculty of Social Sciences. This award is made in recognition of the distinguished service of Murray Smith.
Can you tell us a little about yourself — where are you in your program and how did you come to study Political Science?
I’m currently in the final year of my program at the University of Calgary. My interest in politics began at a young age when during the 2004 federal election, I became curious about how Canada’s election process worked. Fast forward to my senior year in high school, and the 2016 US Presidential election cycle was in full swing, which renewed my interest in politics and a desire to understand better the political processes in Canada and the United States. It was this desire that pushed me to apply for the political science program.
What does this prize mean to you?
Winning this scholarship means a lot to me as the past year has been challenging, especially with getting used to switching to online learning. Nevertheless, it’s a wonderful feeling to have all of the time and effort I have invested into my studies be recognized. I want to express my gratitude for being selected for this award. Thank you!
What are you planning next?
I’m currently at a crossroads deciding whether to continue with my studies at the graduate level in political science or continue to law school.
