September 19, 2022 in POLI 440 Campaigns and Elections

Dr. Ian Brodie is exploring the contribution of strategy and polling to election campaigns.

Can you tell us a little more about this topic?

Political parties have to plan their election strategies not only to deal with their own strengths and weaknesses, but also to deal with the strengths and weaknesses of the other parties in the race.

What else do you cover in your course?

Starting with Aristotle’s work on rhetoric and ending with Twitter and TikTok, POLI 440 covers everything to do with campaigning during an election.

What do you love about teaching this course?

I love teaching from Tom Flanagan’s great book, Winning Power, and adding insights from my years work on election campaigns.

Finally, what other courses would you recommend for students interested this topic?

Dr. Flanagan is a great teacher, but there is no substitute for working on a local election campaign! The Alberta election is coming up in 2023 and every campaign will need help.

Our Thanks to Dr. Ian Brodie for sharing your course with us!
