What We Are Learning This Week with Dr. Ricardo Vernet
April 3, 2023 in POLI 455 Protest, Rebellion & Revolution
Dr Ricardo Vernet is exploring the causes and outcomes/political consequences of protest movements and revolutions in Latin America, North America, and the Middle East
Can you tell us a little more about this topic?
POLI 455 explores protest movements and revolutions. We are particularly interested in causes and outcomes/political consequences of these forms of collective action. This is an interdisciplinary course that combines perspectives from political science, sociology, and economics. POLI 455 is unique this way because of the nature of the subject matter.
What else do you cover in your course?
The first half of the course covers a range of theoretical perspectives and debates on movements and revolutions. The second half discusses causes and outcomes of recent cases of movements and revolutions in Latin America, North America, and the Middle East.
What do you love about teaching this course?
This is an exciting course! As a political scientist, I enjoy studying the origins of political change. This is partly what we strive do in POLI 455.
Finally, what other courses would you recommend for students interested this topic?
Students may also be interested in POLI 359 Introduction to Comparative Politics.
Our Thanks to Dr. Ricardo Vernet for sharing your course with us!
