Casting Call for "Lights Out" Mainstage

Auditions for Actors, Writers, Dancers, Singers, and Musicians 

 

Lights Out

 

An interdisciplinary performance to be created with and by the Ensemble and directed by Bruce Barton

 

What does it take to move in a paralyzed world? With the planet on fire, in a vacuum of corporate responsibility and political will, Lights Out is an embodied search for answers to some urgent questions—a defiant celebration of collective movement and sound in the face of an uncertain future.

 

Our Ensemble requires a wide range of skill sets and we encourage students from all three SCPA Divisions to participate.

 

1) Audition Material: please prepare 2-3 of the following:

  • A 20th or 21st century poem (or part of a poem) that has significant personal meaning for you. (Preferably not original.)
  • A fable, parable or children’s story that has significant personal meaning for you.
  • One of your favourite pop songs (any era, to be sung).
  • A physical sequence of dance or theatrical movement (preferably without text; can be original).
  • A piece of 20th or 21st century instrumental music. (Can be original.)
  • An interpretation of one minute from one your favourite films (performed in any discipline, with or without text)

 

2) Important Dates:

  • Auditions: 
    • first round (solo), 8 September 2023 (5 - 9 pm) and 9 September 2023 (12 am - 9 pm)
    • second round (group), 10 September 2024 (10 am - 6 pm)
  • Rehearsals:
    • begin 2 January 2024
    • normal rehearsal schedule: T - F, 6 - 10 pm; S, 10 am - 6 pm
  • Performances:
    • first: 9 February 2024
    • last: 17 February 2024
  • Introductory Workshops: 
    • three to four (one a month), four hours each, during Fall 2023 semester. Dates/Times TBD.

  • Please sign up for both a solo audition (on either September 8th OR 9th) AND a group audition (on September 10th). NOTE: whenever possible, please fill all four slots in each group audition time on the 10th before selecting an alternate time on that day.
