Alberta International Band Festival
Held in February each year, the Alberta International Band Festival brings hundreds of young Albertans to campus to perform and learn from world-class adjudicators in the beautiful Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall.
Banff Centre
The Banff Centre's mission is to inspire creativity and provide artists and musicians the opportunity to escape to the mountains and focus on their art. In addition to access to many concerts and guest artists, short-term residencies for our students are also possible.
Calgary Board of Education / Calgary Catholic School District
Many of our graduates are employed as music teachers by Calgary’s two school boards, CBE and CCSD. They often return to campus for our recurring Teachers' Conference. This day of arts-focused professional development brings teachers and workshop leaders together to share and learn from one another.
Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra
Many of our private instructors are members of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Each year our students receive a chance to perform as soloists with the orchestra as part of the Concerto Competition.
Calgary Pro Musica
Our partnership with the Calgary Pro Musica allows our students to interact with professional musicians in workshops, masterclasses and private lessons. Calgary Pro Musica also supports our BMus students through scholarships.
Canadian Music Centre
The Prairie Region of the Canadian Music Centre is housed on the University of Calgary campus. This facility gives our students access to the Violet Archer Library, which contains over 20,000 scores by Canadian composers available for free circulation.
Early Music Voices
Early Music Voices presents local and touring artists performing music from the medieval, renaissance and baroque periods. Many of these artists have presented masterclasses, lectures and workshops for our students. The annual Sing Along Messiah concert often features UCalgary students as soloists.
E-Gré National Music Competition
The E-Gré National Music Competition is an annual event focusing on the performance of contemporary music by Canada's top emerging artists. Our partnership with this organization brings the winner to Calgary for a recital at the Rozsa Centre each year.
Honens
More than simply a world-class piano competition, Honens also brings some of the World's best pianists to our halls for concerts.
Kensington Sinfonia
The Kensington Sinfonia performs a wide range of chamber music and string orchestra repertoire. Since its inception in 1988, the Sinfonia has commissioned works by Calgary composers and featured our faculty members as soloists.
Land's End Ensemble
Dedicated to introducing audiences to new music by Canadian and international composers, the award-winning Land's End Ensemble frequently commissions works by our faculty members and students. The annual Land's End Composers Competition is a joint project between the School of Creative and Performing Arts and Land's End. The competition brings young composers from across the country to Calgary to workshop, perform and record their piece.
Mount Royal University Conservatory
Through our partnership with the Mount Royal University Conservatory, qualified students in the MRU Advanced Performance Program can also work towards a BMus at the University of Calgary. The Calgary Youth Orchestra, conducted by Music faculty Edmond Agopian, often includes many of our BMus students and performs occasionally in our concert series.
Mountain View International Festival of Song and Chamber Music
In addition to a concert series, Mountain View hosts a summer festival for singers and chamber musicians. Each summer, musicians from across the world converge in Calgary and on campus for masterclasses, coaching, concerts and other events.
New Works Calgary
New Works Calgary is dedicated to supporting the creation and performance of contemporary concert music, with an emphasis on Calgary and Southern Alberta composers and performers. Many works by our faculty composers and students have been premiered at their concert series.
