Course auditions
Dance technique courses (DNCE 207, 209, 305, 307, 311, 313, 321, 323, 405, 407, 411, 413, 421, 423, 505, 507)
- Fall semester: All students will be required to audition for dance technique courses scheduled for the fall semester.
- Winter semester: You will not have to audition if you have successfully completed the prerequisite course in the Fall semester immediately preceding the current winter term. Successful completion, in this case, indicated a B- or better.
These technique courses are designed for BA/BFA Dance majors. For non-majors who wish to take advanced-level technique courses, you must attend the first day(s) of class and perform a group audition. If you are successful, you will be notified by the division and granted permission to register.
TransFoRM
Auditions: Sunday, September 8, 2024 in Aux Gym, KNA 117 from 12:00PM - 02:45PM.

About the performance
This is an event part of our annual Movement Research Festival (MoRF) where we invite diverse local, national, and international choreographers to create stage works on dance students and the local community. This year's TransFoRM is in partnership with Dancers' Studio West and the Calgary Hip Hop & Street Dance Festival.
Choreographers: Ingrid Díaz Céspedes (CAN), Rosanna Terraciano (CAN), Sylvie Moquin (CAN), Princess Lockeroo (USA), and Jacksun Fryer (USA).
Performances will be on November 23 and 24 at the University Theatre.

About the program
Dance film screenings and digital storytellings from UCalgary students, alumni, staff and faculty. This year's festival will also feature submissions from the Calgary Hip Hop and Street Dance Festival as well as participants in the annual Healthy Dancer Canada conference.
This year's festival will be on November 30, 2024 @ 07:30PM at the University Theatre and will run approximately 75 to 90 minutes.

Dance@Noon
Choreographers will be attending the DNCE207 technique course on the Friday of the second week of classes and casting first-year dance students as well as fellow Dance@Noon choreographers. This season's performances will be from December 2 to 4, 2024 in the University Theatre.

Dance@Night presents third-year BFA students creating group works for the stage.
Mainstage Dance
Auditions: Friday, October 18, 2024 in Aux Gym, KNA 117 from 2–4 p.m.
About the performance
Mainstage Dance is a unique opportunity for dance students to work with professional choreographers and dance artists in a creative process and performance context. Full attendance, teamwork, and artistic commitment are expected.
This year's choreographers are:

- Kim Cooper
- Barbara England
Everyone participates in full for each portion of the audition led by the choreographers. The space will be open for check-in and warm-up at 1:30 p.m. Auditions will start promptly at 2 p.m., so arrive early. No latecomers are admitted. Only dancers in attendance at auditions will be considered. All applicants will be notified of casting decisions by email, typically within about 2-3 weeks.
Eligibility
Auditions are open to all dance majors, dance minors, and students who will be enrolled in DNCE courses in the Winter 2025 semester. Contact us in advance if you are unsure of your eligibility.
How to Apply
Pre-registration is required. Submit your registration through this link, by 4 p.m., Thursday, October 18, 2024.
Commitment
- Rehearsals are from January 14 to March 13, 2025.
Times -- each choreographer has separate rehearsal times. And will be either:
Choreographer 1: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 02:00PM to 04:00PM
Choreographer 2: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 04:00PM to 06:00PM
Choreographer 3: Tuesdays from 02:00PM to 05:00PM and Fridays from 02:00PM to 04:00PM plus February 17 and 18 from 11:00AM to 02:00PM - Production Week: March 4 to 10, 2025 between 10:00AM and 10:00PM -- Times TBD
- Technical Rehearsal: March 11, 2025 from 05:30PM - 10:00PM (show at 07:30PM)
- Dress Rehearsal: March 12, 2025 from 09:00AM - 02:00PM (show at 11:00AM)
- Performances: March 13 - 15, 2025 from 05:30PM to 10:00PM (shows at 07:30PM)
Mainstage may be used as course credit through DNCE 395, 397 or 495.

Dance@Night
Choreographers will be attending technique classes and will send out a form for those who indicated interest due November 12, 2024.
About the performance
Dance@Night presents the summative choreographic and directorial work of our senior Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Dance students, through the live performance of students at all levels in the dance program. This season's performances will be on April 4 and 5, 2025 in the University Theatre.
