CASTING CALL FOR “Magnetic Bodies”

A co-Production with SCPA Drama, and Downstage Theatre

Audition Date/Times: Sunday, September 10th from 10am to 4pm with Bianca Miranda (Downstage Associate Producer) and Clare Preuss (Downstage Artistic Director)

What to prepare: Please share/perform 2-3 minutes of original writing or tell us a 2-3 minute story of your choice. We will also have time to talk about themes that interest you in terms of the focus of Magnetic Bodies as a creative project. Please prepare a short pitch or proposal that addresses what piece you'd like to create for Magnetic Bodies.

Project Blurb: Imagine a body producing a magnetic field - invisible and powerful. Polarity, attraction, repulsion and sphere of influence will be explored in Magnetic Bodies. This project will examine the power within the human body and how we, as magnetic beings, co-exist in a polarized society. Each performance piece will run between 5 and 10 minutes. Each creator-performer will make and perform a solo piece that addresses the theme of body politics in one form or another.

Your creation can incorporate elements of performance art, monologue, personal manifesto, call to action, clown, movement, dance and music.

Magnetic Bodies is being produced at Motel Theatre in Arts Commons in collaboration with UCalgary’s School of Creative and Performing Arts as part of the Downstage season. Each student will work closely with Artistic Director, Clare Preuss, and Associate Producer, Bianca Miranda, throughout the process.

Performances: showtimes Friday/Saturday at 7:30pm & Sunday at 2:00pm
