"Saxophone Legacy celebrates the history of the tenor saxophone," says Dr. Jeremy Brown. "Through the lens of two contemporary saxophonists, (Wilkins and Brown) who studied and learned the greats growing up.  Hank Mobley, Coleman Hawkins, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Michael Brecker are all represented through our compositions and our playing."

Saxophone Legacy is an ensemble formed in 2019 with Jack Wilkins (saxophone, professor of jazz studies, University of Florida) and Dr. Jeremy Brown (saxophonist, flautist, SCPA music professor of music) during Wilkins’s Fulbright residency at the University of Calgary. After performing in Europe in 2019, the group recorded a new album in Calgary in 2020 with percussionist Tyler Hornby and bassist Kodi Hutchison for Chronograph Records.

Saxophone Legacy will perform original compositions and arrangements for 2 tenor saxophones and piano that celebrates the legacy of the tenor saxophone. Compositional contributions came from all 3 founding members – Wilkins, Brown and Per Danielsson (assistant professor in jazz piano, Central Florida University).

The concert takes place on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. at Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall of the Rozsa Centre.
