FEMININE MUSIQUE: THE ART OF THE DUET

Feminine Musique is a world-class vocal duo; each singer - soprano Korliss Uecker and mezzo soprano Tammy Hensrud - possessing a beautiful natural vocal instrument, great technical prowess, and musicianship that both impresses and delights their audiences.

ROD SQUANCE & ZAHEER-ABBAS JANMOHAMED: AN EVENING OF CLASSICAL RAGA AND MARIMBA

Rod Thomas Squance and Zaheer-Abbas Janmohamed play Hindustani classical music, better known as raga, in a traditional Hindustani style. Their collaboration started over sixteen years ago, during which time they have developed a fresh, exciting and highly entertaining approach that preserves the integrity and authenticity of this centuries-old tradition. Ranging from intimately delicate to rhythmically explosive, their music takes audiences on a journey exploring every emotional nuance of each raga they present.

UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY STRING QUARTET 30TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON WITH SPECIAL GUEST JANI PARSONS

This virtuoso ensemble has been University of Calgary’s string quartet-in-residence since 1995. The 30th anniversary season is representative of its programing since its inception: timeless masterworks from the string quartet canon mixed with works by Canadian composers and underrepresented composers, and collaborations with distinguished guest artists.

JERMEY BROWN & JANI PARSONS

New Stories features SCPA faculty Jeremy Brown and Jani Parsons in a wide array of magnetic works for saxophone and piano by some of today's most compelling compositional voices from Canada and the USA. The music presented reflects an array of influences, folk songs, stories and traditions that shape our perspectives and weave together diverse lines of human meaning and connection. The music featured includes works by Dorothy Chang, Malcolm Forsyth, Kelly-Marie Murphy, Francine Trester, Reena Ismail, and a world premiere by Calgary-based composer/arranger/pianist Marc Limbacher.

Calgary Philharmonic Concertmaster Diana Cohen and pianist Roman Rabinovich perform a program that explores the full range of the human condition, from its darkest lows to the bliss of romantic love, with these contrasting works where virtuosity is in full display.

NEIL COCKBURN: SWET SUITES AND TANTALIZING TACCATAS

Presented in partnership with Early Music Voices, Neil Cockburn returns to Calgary for a solo organ concert on the University of Calgary’s beautiful Ahrend organ. Including music by Buxtehude, Sweelinck, and Bach, this concert promises to be a special evening with one of Canada’s premier organists.

REDLINE TRIO FEATURING BRAD TURNER

Redline Trio’s cohesiveness and musicianship is immediately evident upon first listen. Their musical concept is unabashedly straight ahead, bringing to life an attitude from a bygone era, but with a modern twist. Redline Trio is comprised of three mainstays of the Calgary jazz scene: Jeff Sulima on drums, Steve Shepard on bass, and Mark DeJong on tenor saxophone. Featuring Brad Turner on trumpet, this event will bring a blend of creativity and technical virtuosity that will mesmerize the audience and bring them along on a musical exploration.
