Harmony The Musical, A New Original Musical

July 1, 2023 marked the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Immigration Act in Canada, which prohibited Chinese from immigrating to Canada for 24 years between 1923 to 1947. In Fall of 2023, a group of Chinese Canadian artists from Calgary were inspired by the historical events, and wrote a new original musical in Cantonese, to express artistically the historical recount of the circumstances and hardship of the early Chinese immigrants in Canada.

《和》Harmony The Musical tells the powerful story of the early Chinese immigrants who strived, fought and sought for harmony in a new world. Set during the era of the Chinese Immigration Act, this musical captures the enduring spirit of a community facing adversity in their pursuit of a better life. It will be presented in Cantonese with English subtitles.

The purpose of this musical production is to commemorate, preserve and raise awareness on this significant piece of Chinese Canadian history so that it will not be forgotten, and to educate the current and future generations.

This musical will be performed live at the Bella Concert Hall at Mount Royal University on November 2, 2024. Tickets are now on sale at harmonymusical.ca
