SCPA alumnus wins the 2023 Musical Instrument Bank competition

SCPA alumnus Daniel Dastoor (BMus’18) is one of the winners of the 2023 Musical Instrument Bank competition by Canada Council.

Pre-eminent classical musicians from Canada compete for the opportunity to borrow and perform with an exceptional instrument from the Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank for three years. The Musical Instrument Bank comprises more than 20 exceptional instruments crafted by world renowned luthiers, including Stradivari, Gagliano and Pressenda.

Daniel will be playing the prestigious 1700 Taft Stradivarius violin for the next few years. The same violin was also played by violinist Renée-Paul Gauthier during her time with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.

Daniel is a winner of the Sylva Gelber Music Foundation Award, the Calgary Philharmonic’s Marley Rynd Memorial Performance Scholarship, won first and second prize at the Glenn Gould School Chamber Music Competition and won first and second prize at the Fontainebleau Festival’s Prix Ravel. He has performed as soloist with the Lethbridge Symphony and with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.

Daniel earned his BMus degree in 2018 and also completed a combined degree in Computer Science.
