Calgary Opera: Community Ambassadors Program

Join Calgary Opera for a series of panels that discuss varying aspects of the singer’s path and identity

Our first panel, called The Singer’s Journey, is focused on under-represented voices in the professional singing community, specifically within the LGBTQ2S+ community. The panel has specific representation from Trans, Gender Diverse and Queer singers and is being presented in partnership with Skipping Stone Foundation, a not-for-profit dedicated to supporting and empowering trans and gender diverse youth and their families in the province of Alberta.

This event is meant as an informative session but also an open discussion about personal identity as well as identity and place within the singing community.  This workshop is open to anyone interested in this topic and I ask that you share it with your voice, musical theatre and drama students as well as any other students and staff that might be interested. There will be dedicated time to ask questions of the panelists.

The panel is moderated by Dallas Hayes-Sparks, Community Ambassador, opera singer and teaching artist and Amelia Marie Newbert, Co-Founder and Director of Education and Awareness for the Skipping Stone Foundation.

Our panelists are:

  • Jonathan Adams
  • Dr. Ari Agha
  • Dr. Laure Hynes
  • Erik Peregrine

The event will take place on Zoom on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021 from 4:30-6 p.m. To sign up please visit our Eventbrite page.
